A Group Exhibition in Venice
"In the space of the Cross"
20 Maggio 2010 / 30 Maggio 2010
In the presence of the Artists, organizers and authorities the Artworks of twelve Artists (not only painters but also sculptors, glassmakers and goldsmiths) who reinterpret Giotto's cross: the show has been conceived and promoted by the Melori & Rosenberg Art Gallery and organized with the Parish of San Salvador, which keeps on promoting cultural events on the occasion of the pastoral visit of the Patriarch to Venice.
The famous template on which the Giotto's Crucifix was painted has been delivered on forex to each Artist: Annalù (San Donà di Piave, Venezia), Anna Madia (Torino), Franco Murer (Falcade, Belluno), Igor Molin (Burano, Venezia), Lucia Sarto (Lignano Sabbiadoro, Udine), Luciano Meggiarin (Venezia), Luigi Rocca (Venezia), Mario Formica (Rimini), Mario Gualandri (Roma), Miria Malandri (Forlì), Norberto Moretti (Venezia) and Riccardo Costantini (Burano, Venezia).
Each Artist faced a novel challenge: the request to represent the crucifix by using their specific styles and the materials used in their everyday work, creating a new representation on a particular material and the imposed framing of its bounds.
The show has been organized under the patronage of: Townhall of Venice, Province of Venice, Studium Generale Macianum, Church of San Salvador, Livingstone Paint Factory, Melori & Rosenberg Gallery and Melori & ROsenberg Publisher, whom published the catalogue.
Speeches of Donatella B. Melori e Alice Faga, Natalino Bonazza, Andrea Enzo (Studium Generale Marcianum), Petra Schaefer (Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani), preface by mons. Brian E. Ferme.
The exhibition coincides with the conference "L'esperienza cristiana generatrice di bellezza" [The Christian experience generator of beauty] which will take place on Saturday May, 15th, at Centro pastorale Card. Urbani in Zelarino (Venice).
